| GOP senator: Health reform could kill immigration reform |
WASHINGTON - It was immigration reform day at the White House Thursday as President Barack Obama met separately with advocates and two senators determined to pass a comprehensive bill.
But Sen. Lindsey Graham, the lone Republican senator who supports such a measure, said after his meeting with Obama that if Democrats continue to push through health care reform using a procedural maneuver called reconciliation, then he believes the immigration issue is dead for this year.

| L.A. County Spends $600 Mil On Welfare For Illegal Immigrants |
For the second consecutive year taxpayers in a single U.S. county will dish out more than half a billion dollars just to cover the welfare and food-stamp costs of illegal immigrants.
Los Angeles County, the nation’s most populous, may be in the midst of a dire financial crisis but somehow there are plenty of funds for illegal aliens. In January alone, anchor babies born to the county’s illegal immigrants collected more than $50 million in welfare benefits. At that rate the cash-strapped county will pay around $600 million this year to provide illegal aliens’ offspring with food stamps and other welfare perks.

Federal anticorruption investigators continue to struggle to keep up with the screening of newly hired United States law enforcement officers working on the Mexican border and have fallen far behind in checking current employees as well, federal officials testified on Thursday.
The testimony came during a hearing in Washington before a subcommittee of the Senate Homeland Security Committee on rising corruption among the ranks of federal law enforcement officers who patrol the border and guard ports of entry.

| MD - Feds Raid Timbuktu Restaurant In Hanover |
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has just completed a raid at Timbuktu Restaurant at 1726 Dorsey Road in Hanover. Anne Arundel police supplied 18 officers to assist federal authorities in executing warrants at the restaurant and at several other residential locations around the County. From a source close to the investigation, the restaurant was hiring undocumented illegal aliens and providing them safe harbor.

President Barack Obama is summoning two key senators to the Oval Office on Thursday for an update on immigration reform efforts — but one of them, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), thinks Obama should be the one giving the update.
Graham, less than thrilled at the notion of providing the equivalent of a book report to the headmaster in chief, said Obama’s lack of direction on immigration reform is hampering Graham’s efforts to recruit additional Republicans to the cause.

| Critics Blast App to Aid Illegal Immigrants |
A cell phone application that will help illegal immigrants find water and key landmarks as they cross into the United States is an inappropriate use of taxpayer funds and an irresponsible use of technology, critics say.
The Transborder Immigrant Tool (TBT), the brainchild of three faculty members at the University of California-San Diego and a colleague at the University of Michigan, is a software application that can be installed into a GPS-enabled cell phone. In addition to helping immigrants locate water and landmarks, it also could alert them to Border Patrol checkpoints. And to make the trek a little less arduous, it also plays recorded poetry.

TUCSON - The Tucson Sector Border Patrol says its agents apprehended six sex offenders over the weekend that had illegally entered the United States from Mexico. The agency says five of the offenders were arrested for sex crimes against children.

The head of an immigration enforcement political action committee believes a high-profile Senate primary race will make it tough for President Barack Obama and the Democrats to shove an amnesty bill through before the approaching midterm elections.
The Los Angeles Times reported Friday that Obama took up the issue privately with his staff and Senators Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina), who have spent months trying to craft a bill.
