Goetze Candy Company will show off a new record at the Maryland State Fair.
A few days before the fair’s Aug. 24 opening, Goetze will create a 10-foot long Cow Tales candy, the longest the company has ever created.
The caramel and cream rope-like treat, one of Goetze’s signature sweets, is usually seven inches and weighs one ounce. The record-breaking Cow Tales will be roughly as long as a basketball hoop is tall.* It will be on display in front of the Bulk Candy Store in the Exhibition Hall for the entirety of the fair.
The idea for the behemoth confection came from Shenkman. Shenkman and his brother Ken co-own Bulk Candy Store, a West Palm Beach, Fla., candy shop and online retailer that is a regular in the state fair’s Exhibition Hall. Brian Shenkman approached Goetze because of the Baltimore-based company’s local ties.
“Goetze is a hometown favorite,” he said. “We’ve been coming to the fair for over 20 years, and I know we always sell a lot of Goetze products.”
The Shenkman brothers are no strangers to extreme food challenges. The two created a 540-pound peanut butter cup using two kiddie pools for their store’s grand opening.
During the last few days of the fair, attendees can buy a piece of history, as the record-setting candy will be portioned off and sold. All proceeds will benefit the Maryland State Fair Scholarship Fund.
The Maryland State Fair in Timonium runs from Aug. 24 to Sept. 4.
