Bullet Blues represents Florida at White House 2018 Made in America Product Showcase Sometimes good things happen to good companies. The White House features businesses, annually, committed to manufacturing products in the United States. This year, Bullet Blues represents the State of Florida for the White House's 2018 “Made in America: Product Showcase.” The White House also chooses a single business from each of the 50 states for the event. For more information about this White House event, visit the Administration's online article, “See Great American Made Products from Across the 50 States.” “It was such an honor for Bullet Blues to be invited to the White House and represent the State of Florida,” said Isabelle Benoit, owner and designer for the Coral Springs, Florida-based company. “We saw some great products on display. The event validates our commitment to Made in America and shows us how the national momentum is growing stronger.” “We thank so much the White House for the invitation.” The White House is careful, however, when it comes to choosing businesses to showcase. For example, chosen businesses produce products that are “all or virtually all” manufactured in the United States. In addition, significant parts and processing, according to the White House guidelines, go into the product. More details can be found in this YouTube video released by the White House. |American-made clothing helps the economy, environment and your budget|
In the previous two blog posts, we established the value of buying American-made clothing like Bullet Blues. Now, we are looking at how buying American-made clothing helps the economy, environment and your pocketbook. Take a look at our first two posts in this series: “American-made: Why should I buy American-made jeans?” and “Does buying American-made clothing matter: The truth.” Buying American-made clothing helps the economy, environment and your pocketbook American-made clothing helps the economy by supporting American families. More than 42,000 textile workers, in North Carolina alone, still rely on responsible consumers to keep their bills paid. Read more in the 2017 article, “Made in America: Dead or Alive?” published on the www.businessoffashion.com According to 2014-2016 statistics from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, jobs for textile workers actually increased in North Carolina during this time. American-made means higher-quality clothing. For example, up until Dec. 31, 2017, the maker of some of the finest selvedge denim in the world was located in Greensboro, N.C. at the Cone Mills White Oak selvedge denim plant. Today, however, the plant is closed. We cannot allow this to happen to other American manufacturers. Nevertheless, other clothing brands, like Bullet Blues and Brooks Brothers, continue to produce lasting clothing. This higher-quality means savings to the consumer. According to a 2016 Ipsos/Reuters “Buy America” survey, more than 70 percent of American consumers believe in buying American-made products. Because of higher retail prices, however, consumers tend to purchase foreign-made clothing to save a few dollars. This cheaper clothing doesn't have the lasting ability […]

Does buying American-made clothing matter: What’s the truth?
This blog ” Does Buying American-made clothing matter” is second in a series. Bullet Blues takes a closer look at the American textile industry and examines its health, future and how American consumers can support American workers and manufacturers. Does buying American-made clothing matter? Does it make a positive difference to our economy? According to recent statistics, the answer is, “Yes!” The more than 550,000 Americans employed in the textile sector of the United States, from apparel to manufacturing, encourage you to buy American textiles. This statistic comes from William V. McCrary, Jr., chairman of the National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO). McCrary offered the statistic during his March 22 trade-association “2018 State of the U.S. Textile Industry,” held in Washington, D.C. Additionally, McCrary told the audience how 2017 exports of American-made textiles and apparel equaled $28.6 billion. McCrary, with a long history in the industry, knows of what he speaks. He is also the CEO and Chairman of William Barnet & Sons, LLC, based in Spartanburg, S.C. The company manufactures synthetic yarns and fibers. Does buying American-made clothing matter? In a recent blog post titled, “American made: Why should I buy American-made jeans?,” we looked at the 2017 closing of North Carolina's Cone Mills White Oak selvedge denim plant. Cone Mills manufactured some of the world's finest denim and closed after 112 years of operation. Additionally, the Cone Mills’ 200 American workers were left without a job. And, that's the bad news. The good news: How YOU can help Does buying American-made clothing matter? […]

American Made: Why should I buy American-made jeans?
Editor’s note: In the next four blog posts, Bullet Blues will take a closer look at the American textile industry. We will examine its health, its future and how American consumers can support American workers and manufacturers. Why should I buy American-made jeans? A white T-shirt and denim is our American uniform, right? Sadly, the majority of American consumers buy foreign-made jeans. American-made apparel, however, is usually higher-quality and offers longer-lasting sustainability. So, why should I buy American-made jeans? Selvedge denim is the highest quality denim. It’s created on traditional fly-shuttle looms and won't fray. Up until Dec. 31, 2017, the maker of some of the finest selvedge denim in the world was located in Greensboro, N.C. at the White Oak Cone Mills selvedge denim plant. Last fall, the International Trade Group (ITG) announced plans to close its Cone Mills' plant, the last of its kind in the United States. The plant had been operating in North Carolina for 112 years and employed 200 workers. The closing meant lost jobs and a lost American denim supplier for companies like Bullet Blues. According to a 2018 Business of Fashion online article titled, “Made in the USA: Dead or Alive?” we still have plenty of reasons to buy American-made clothing. The loss of North Carolina's White Oak Cone Mills was a sad day, but we still have approximately 42,000 textile workers in North Carolina alone relying on our ethical purchases. Who is responsible? ITG stated the closing was due to customers purchasing lower-quality denim for cheaper prices overseas. […]

Mother’s Day gift ideas: For the man who hasn’t a clue
Mother’s Day gift ideas: For the man who hasn’t a clue. What do I buy her for Mother's Day? Mother’s Day gift ideas for the man, who isn’t sure. Alright gentlemen, it's that time of year again. Mother's Day, May 13, is around the corner. While that macaroni necklace you made your mom was a hit 25 years ago, the women in your life have different expectations today. Mother’s Day gift ideas aren’t limited to dried pasta. Take a look at this web page full of 2018 gift ideas from RealSimple.com. So, what do you buy the woman who is usually taking care of everyone else? Here's a little-known secret about women. They often deny themselves a splurge on the things they really want. Here's how a Saturday grocery shop evolves in the life of a busy mom. She needs to get the groceries handled for the week, even though she’d love to take a nap. Mom has her list, or maybe she is one of those adept at keeping track in her head. Mom knows your youngest daughter needs deodorant, the oldest only drinks almond milk since she turned vegan last month. She has memorized the favorite coffee brand, cereal and toothpaste for, at least, three people other than herself. She glances at the flowers. This is only on the odd occasion when she's able to go to the grocery store alone. Usually, she has 1-2 children making pleas for items not on the list. For an idea of some inexpensive Mother’s Day gift […]

Spring 2018 color trends: Add a passion for purple
Spring 2018 color trends are taking us down memory lane. Remember those sweet, lilac spring dresses your mother put on you this time of year? Well, there's good news for those of us with these fond memories of purple-hued dresses, white tights and shiny Mary Jane shoes. A grown-up lilac and her sisters, sexy violet, lavender and eggplant, have happily made a return for Spring 2018. For more about Spring 2018 color trends, read this Harper's Bazaar March, 2018 article, “Lilac is Back, but don't be afraid: How to wear it now.” Spring 2018 color trends: How to wear grown-up purple If you are fair-skinned, don't put lilac near your face. Instead, opt for lilac pants or a skirt. Lilac tends to wash out fairer skins. So, fairer skins should lean towards darker lilac tones like eggplant and violet. Olive and darker skins, however, make a striking contrast to the lighter pastel shades. Mix your lilac and other purple hues with denim. By adding a pair of skinnies or a denim jack to your lilac top, you add some sophistication to a hue too-often associated with bridesmaid dresses. Play on the patent leather memories of your childhood and pair your lilac spring coat, dress, or top with shiny black pumps or loafers. Heck, go traditional and get yourself a pair of grown up Mary Janes. There not just for first-graders anymore. If lilac clothing seems a little too much, add lilac accessories. A beautiful lilac ring, necklace, or bracelet says “Spring” with little effort. Take […]

Simple, affordable wedding dresses for a simple, country wedding
Is it possible to find simple, affordable wedding dresses, minus the hefty price tag? Can a bride still feel elegant in anything less than a Cinderella gown? Not only is it possible, it's easier and less stressful. Choosing simple, affordable wedding dresses is, well, ‘simple,' as long as you have creativity and an open-mind. Let’s be real, strapless mermaid designs have been done to death. So, why not create a highly-personal, affordable, elegant country event with a personal, flattering and affordable dress to match? And, “affordable wedding dresses” don't have to mean cheap, tacky, or ugly. Coco Chanel said it best, “A woman can be overdressed, but never over elegant.” For tips on creating an elegant, affordable wedding to fit this simple, affordable theme, read this 2015 article, “An Intimate Destination Wedding in Big Sur, California,” on Brides.com. Instead of killing yourself to earn enough for a big, pricey wedding dress, why not choose a simple wedding dress with tons of elegance and understatement. You and the groom will feel less pressure as a newly-wedded couple with much less financial strain. How to find elegant, affordable wedding dresses Look for clean lines. If you have the height, take a lesson from Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, who epitomized elegance with a very simple, Narciso Rodriquez gown. While her gown was pricey, it was essentially a simple, sleek, full-length slip-dress, easily found anywhere for less. Dress your shape. Maybe you have wideset shoulders? In this case, a strapless gown might not flatter your shape. Adjust your fantasy to accommodate […]
